Calabar, Cross River State – In a bid to combat the rising cases of medical quackery and other malfeasances in the state, the Commissioner of Health in Cross River State, Dr Egbe Ayuk, has announced the reactivation of the anti-quackery task force on healthcare. This move comes as a response to the alarming rate at which these illicit practices have been occurring.
Dr Ayuk made this known during a visit by a team from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to his office in Calabar. Expressing his dismay at the situation, he emphasized the need for the state regulatory bodies to be reorganized and retrained, while the anti-quackery task force is relaunched.
The reactivation of the task force is expected to play a crucial role in effectively addressing the wrongdoings in the healthcare sector. Dr Ayuk stated, “In addition to reactivating the anti-quackery task force, we want to invite owners of private hospitals, clinics, maternity centers, pharmacies, patent medicine vendors, and mortuaries, among others, to update their licenses. We hope that they will comply in the true spirit of partnership.”

The leader of the visiting NAFDAC team and coordinator of NAFDAC in Cross River State, Mr Richard Anichuku, expressed gratitude to the State Government for their cooperation with his organization. He also pledged to strengthen the collaboration through training and regular joint operations with stakeholders in Cross River State.
“We would like to strengthen our relationship with the state government through regular joint operations with stakeholders and training,” Mr Anichuku stressed.
