CRAAC writes Nigerian Christian Pilgrims boss, Yakubu Pam, demands immediate resignation

The Civil Rights Action Against Corruption (CRAAC) has written to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC, Rev. Yakubu Pam, asking him to resign and hand himself over to anti-corruption agencies in the country.

the group accused the NCPC boss of dragging down Christianity in Nigeria in the guise of executing the mandate of his office.

They told the NCPC Executive Secretary that since his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari on 4th July 2020, rather than edifying the body of Christ, as expected of the exalted office, he has rather engaged in acts that are inimical to Christian evangelism, such that those to whom the faith should have been made attractive are now impossibly revolted by your conduct, which currently borders on apostasy.

“The most recent of such conduct is the charade you reduced the sacred body of Christ and the Christian Pilgrims Commission into when you led 121 persons on a trip that you packaged as a pilgrimage to pray for the forthcoming elections and restoration of security in Nigeria; your trip was comically also used to discuss the national politics,” the group’s letter, signed by Robinson Edeh, National Coordinator, said.

“The public outrage in and outside the Christendom – that greeted this irresponsible junketeer was righteous because your action was fraudulent, while your ill-advised defense of it is a blatant lie which has no place in a man professing to be a minister of Christ. You were able to attempt defending yourself in this only because Nigerians that were speaking out against your indiscretion were yet to obtain all the facts.

“They will be mortified to learn that aside from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, and a handful of State officials, the rest of the delegation were your relations, political associates, business partners, mistresses, and their friends and relatives.

“This practically implied that half of the delegation was on holiday, paid for by the NCPC.

“The other half of the delegation was on the trip, not for the purposes you advertised, but to deliberate on your political ambition of becoming the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by crook, since the only road to this position for you is an unending campaign to be hand-picked as a correcting factor for the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Facts have now emerged that you and your political associates were on that trip to destabilize Nigeria unless you get what you want.

“Effectively, you should refund the government resources spent on the flight tickets and estacodes for the delegation to the Holy Land since you took these people on your assignment and not a national assignment.

“It is bad enough that you sin against the country but this crime is made worse by manipulating the entire Board of the Commission to join you in wrecking the place you were appointed to make perfect.

“On the administrative side, it is saddening to discover that you have continually breached the Public Procurement Act in your running of the Commission.

“Similar to how you select those that go on pilgrimage, vendors, and contractors are selected from a circle consisting of your associates, friends, and family.

“The many instances when you overruled the civil servants in the Commission are well documented and would constitute evidence against you when you are eventually put on trial.CRACK is concerned that you are now deploying the proceeds of this sleaze to attempt to destabilize Nigeria.

“Several threats of destabilization over the Muslim-Muslim tickets were connected with your name and it would be interesting to see what additional information law enforcement agencies and the intelligence community would dig up since they have already connected your financial links to some of those threats.

“We however do not see value in waiting for your arrest, prosecution, conviction and sentencing to come after your tenure., NCPC is one organization where leadership should be by example and being a Christian-oriented entity, corruption should have no berth at the Commission.

“This is why we are calling for you, Reverend Yakubu Pam, to immediately resign as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) igiventhe many infractions you have engaged in.

“Our further demand is that you turn yourself over to the relevant security agencies and anti-corruption bodies upon your resignation.

“We are particularly interested in unraveling these details so we are going to demand that the nation’s anti-graft agencies investigate the finances of the NCPC from 2016 till date, which requires that you step aside to prevent you from interfering with the process

“Your failure to resign after seven (7) days of receipt of this letter, CRAAC shall, beginning from Monday, October 31, 2022, commence indefinite protests at the Presidential Villa, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, NCPC Office in Garki Abuja, the Headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja and the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja.

“CRAAC has a firm belief that the movement to reclaim Nigeria from corrupt tendencies must begin in the house of God, of which NCPC is an embodiment. Looking forward to your saving the nation from the embarrassment of further dragging the NCPC through the mud. Accept the assurances of our best regards.”
