Josephina Itabor, popularly known as Phyna and winner of the Big Brother Naija reality show, recently opened up about her painful experience of being rejected by her Muslim lover’s family, despite her willingness to convert to Islam.

In a candid interview with media personality Hero Daniels, Phyna revealed that she had been practicing Islam because of her Muslim lover, even though she was originally a Catholic. However, despite her efforts to embrace her partner’s religion, his family adamantly opposed the idea of them getting married.

The heartbreaking rejection came to a head when her ex-lover’s sisters and mother threatened to throw her out, prompting Phyna to make the difficult decision to end the relationship. Little did she know that she was pregnant at the time.

After discovering her pregnancy, Phyna reached out to her ex-lover to share the news, only to be met with indifference. “I called him and he said that’s my business,” she recalled.

The burden of facing the disapproval of her lover’s family and the uncertainty of her future led Phyna to make the painful choice to terminate the pregnancy. “Not even one person in the family wanted a Christian and I felt I had a bright future and I knew it was going to draw me back so I was left to make the hardest choice ever,” she explained.

Phyna’s heart-wrenching story sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals in interfaith relationships, as well as the societal pressures and expectations that can have a profound impact on personal decisions.

The reality TV star’s candid account serves as a reminder of the complexities and emotional toll that can accompany navigating love and relationships in the face of cultural and religious differences.

Despite the pain and hardship she endured, Phyna’s resilience and courage in sharing her story is a testament to her strength and determination to overcome adversity.
