Verity Prime Video release news gives viewers a new way to watch the Colleen Hoover adaptation from October 27. Amazon says the thriller is now available to rent or buy in the United States after its cinema run, with Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett leading the cast.
The important detail is the payment model. This is a separate rental or purchase, available to customers with or without a Prime membership. An announcement that a film has arrived on Prime Video does not automatically mean it has joined the films included within a monthly subscription.
What today’s release actually includes
Amazon identifies Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, Hathaway as Verity Crawford and Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford. Michael Showalter directs. The company updated its viewing guide on October 27, moving the story from a forthcoming digital date to an available rental and purchase release.
The announcement is specifically framed around the US storefront. Viewers elsewhere should check the title page in their own country for availability, price and the options offered. A US launch is not evidence that every regional catalogue has received the same film on the same terms.
Our earlier round-up of Hathaway’s 2026 projects covered the film before this viewing milestone. Today’s development concerns distribution after cinemas. It gives people who missed the theatrical release an additional route to the film, without changing what earlier announcements said about its cast.
The book’s unsettling premise reaches another audience
Grand Central Publishing describes Hoover’s novel as a psychological thriller built around a writer accepting an unusually important commission. Lowen is asked to complete books that the injured Verity cannot finish. The work takes her into the Crawford household, where professional opportunity becomes entangled with disturbing discoveries.
The publisher’s synopsis identifies an unfinished autobiography among Verity’s papers. Lowen’s decision about that manuscript supplies the central tension: private writing may reveal something consequential, but knowing what a document contains is different from knowing how to interpret it. That uncertainty is part of the premise, rather than an ending to reveal.
Hachette’s catalogue lists the novel in several editions, including a media tie-in paperback and digital formats. Its March 2026 paperback listing runs to 368 pages. These are details about a particular book edition; they do not establish a film’s running time or guarantee that every scene follows the source text.
Hoover’s own books page places Verity among her mature dark-romance titles. That author classification concerns the novel, rather than a substitute for the film’s local age certification. Readers choosing between the two formats can use the book’s description and the movie’s own listing to decide what suits them.
The commercial questions around adapting established stories also appear in our coverage of South Park’s rights and distribution business. The properties are very different, but both demonstrate why ownership, licensing and the platform offering a title need to be considered separately.
Rental windows and the subscription distinction
Prime Video’s published usage rules say rentals typically allow 30 days to begin watching and 48 hours to finish after viewing starts. The applicable title details govern the actual period. Anyone renting for a weekend or a group viewing should check those details before pressing play.
The same rules explain that streaming and download options depend on compatible devices and location. A rental may be downloadable on a supported device, but that should be checked on the film’s detail page. Buying and renting are separate choices, so the checkout option matters as much as the presence of a play button.
For households already paying for Prime, the practical question is whether the page says the film is included or asks for an additional payment. Membership and a particular film transaction can coexist in the same app. Reading the purchase screen avoids treating every title displayed there as part of one subscription bundle.
There is a useful comparison in Showalter and Hathaway’s earlier collaboration, The Idea of You. Amazon’s release guide for that Robinne Lee adaptation described its May 2024 arrival as included with Prime. The two guides illustrate different release arrangements even though the films share a director, a star and a platform.
How the release fits Amazon MGM’s wider film plans
At CinemaCon, Amazon MGM Studios reiterated a plan to release at least 15 theatrical films annually. Its presentation included established properties and new productions, with Verity listed among the 2026 releases. That statement describes the studio’s intended theatrical output, rather than a box-office result for this individual thriller.
Streaming businesses are also balancing several sources of revenue, as our report on Netflix’s latest quarterly results explains in a different company setting. A digital rental is one transaction; a subscription is an ongoing relationship. Neither should be used alone to infer how profitable a film has been.
For viewers, today’s verified change is simpler than that larger business picture: the US rental and purchase option is available. The cast and premise are established, while local availability and the final checkout terms remain the details to check. Those choosing to watch can then judge the adaptation for themselves.
