Trump’s Diet: Still Holding On to Old Habits Despite Health Concerns

It seems like no matter how many health warnings come his way, Donald Trump just can’t—or won’t—let go of his love for the same old comfort foods. Back in July 2025, Trump’s battle with chronic venous insufficiency made headlines. This condition affects the veins in the legs, making it tough to get blood back up to the heart—something that, unsurprisingly, gets worse with extra weight. His BMI readings across a few years have been telling, fluctuating between overweight and obese categories. Yet, despite all that, his eating habits have remained stubbornly consistent.

Surprisingly, it’s not Trump himself who’s revealing all this. In a moment that’s almost embarrassing-sounding, it was Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, who unintentionally let the cat out of the bag. Her recent social media posts gave a peek into Trump’s diet during a July 2025 trip. If you thought a health diagnosis would lead to a cleaner plate, think again.

When Closest Connections Share Too Much

Actually, this isn’t the first time someone close to the family has spilled some unexpected details about Trump’s lifestyle. Earlier in 2025, Kimberly Guilfoyle, another of Donald Jr.’s girlfriends, referenced Trump’s eating habits in a not-so-subtle way. Sharing a podcast clip on Instagram, the host noted that despite Trump’s notorious irregular sleeping patterns and questionable diet, his energy levels never seemed to falter. The tone was part admiration, part critique—almost as if to say, “How does he even manage this?”

Now, that’s quite something to think about: someone who’s maybe not the healthiest eater but still has a seemingly endless reservoir of energy. It rings true to a lot of us, in a way—sometimes diet and sleep habits don’t exactly line up with how energized someone appears. Whether Trump appreciated being called out on it, though, isn’t clear. Yet, he’s hardly shy about what he loves to eat. In fact, back in 2019, when inviting a college football team for a fast-food banquet, he proudly declared his fondness for “great American food,” with no apologies. It’s easy to imagine that deep down, he knows better—but those Big Macs and fries still hold their charm.

Meat, Potatoes, and a Dash of Fancy—Still His Comfort Zone

During the trip from Scotland in 2025, Trump stuck close to the classics: meat and potatoes. But he did upgrade his menu slightly—the usual burger and fries gave way to beef bourguignon. At first glance, that sounds pretty fancy—tender beef slowly cooked in red wine stock. But pair that with butter-loaded mashed potatoes, and suddenly, this “gourmet” meal isn’t much of a break from his old favorites. Oh, and there was a garden salad thrown in for good measure, plus tiramisu for dessert. The whole thing was documented (a little too eagerly) by Bettina Anderson on her Instagram Story, unintentionally making it clear: diet changes? Not so much.

Still, he’s dropped some weight since leaving his first term, which is impressive to some given the constant reference to his fast food habits. From 244 pounds in 2020 to 224 pounds in 2025, that’s a decent change. According to Sean Hannity chatting with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s lost those 20 pounds without really ditching the “crap” he likes to eat. Beef burgers, just maybe sans the bun now, is apparently the compromise.

So, what’s going on here? How does he keep going, keep shedding pounds sometimes, yet always return to those comfort foods? That’s the paradox—one that feels familiar to many people who wrestle with the balance between healthy choices and cravings. Maybe it’s about willpower, maybe about priorities. Or maybe, as with all of us, it’s about finding little ways to tweak habits without giving up what feels like normal.

It’s tempting to think that health scares will push us to make drastic changes. But often, it’s not that simple. Habits, especially around food, carry more than just nutritional value. They hold comfort, identity, routine. Trump’s story is a reminder of just how tricky all this can be—even when the stakes are impossibly high.
