Rio Ferdinand, a respected figure in the football world, has named Manchester United and Arsenal as the two clubs that could challenge reigning champions Manchester City for the Premier League title this season. While Ferdinand believes that Pep Guardiola’s side will ultimately retain the title, he expects both United and Arsenal to come close in the race.

As the Premier League campaign kicks off on Friday, Manchester City will face Burnley in their opening match. However, Ferdinand suggests that it will be Manchester United and Arsenal who pose the greatest threat to City’s dominance.

“Manchester United and Arsenal, two challengers. If anyone is going to get close to them [Man City], it will be those two,” Ferdinand expressed during an interview with TNT Sports.

Ferdinand acknowledges that there is still a notable gap between Manchester United and Manchester City, both on and off the pitch. However, he believes that United is heading in the right direction and has shown great ambition in the transfer market.

“I think you can see how they have approached the transfer window, it has been very decisive and forthright,” Ferdinand said. “And I think Arsenal have done the same. They have recruited superbly well in this window, bringing in three very good players who will not only improve the squad but also the starting XI.”

Ferdinand’s optimism about Manchester United’s transfer dealings and Arsenal’s recruitment suggests that both clubs have made significant strides to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season. He believes that these improvements will enable them to mount a strong challenge against Manchester City.
