Alexei Navalny was detained at a Moscow airport on Sunday last week, just moments after arriving from Germany, where he spent five months recovering from nerve agent, Novichok poisoning.

The US warned its citizens to avoid joining the protests after Russia accused the US of supporting the protests.

In response to the mass arrests, the European Union High Representative Josep Borrell, condemned the “widespread detentions, disproportionate use of force” by Russian authorities in Saturday’s protests and said he would discuss the “next steps” with EU foreign ministers on Monday.
