Manchester United have agreed a fee with Benfica for central defender Victor Lindelof.

Sky Sports News HQ understands United will pay the Portuguese club £30.7m to sign the Sweden international.

Lindelof is yet to agree personal terms, with his proposed move to Old Trafford also subject to a medical and international clearance.

A United statement read: “Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof, subject to a medical examination, international clearance and personal terms.

“A further announcement will be made once the transfer is complete.”

Sky Sports News HQ revealed in May that Jose Mourinho was planning on signing a central defender this summer and had identified Lindelof, Michael Keane and Virgil van Dijk as his three main targets.

United have had a long-standing interest in Lindelof, but decided against making a move for him in January due to the upturn in their form and the return to fitness of a number of their central defenders.

The 22-year-old joined Benfica from Swedish side Vasteras SK in 2011 and has since featured 72 times for the first-team, helping them win the Portuguese league title on three occasions.

Lindelof has also enjoyed success on the international stage, having helped Sweden win the U21 European Championship in 2015 and appeared in all three group matches for the senior team at Euro 2016.
