Low-Cost Ideas to Improve Your Homes Curb Appeal

Do you want to spruce up your home?  Whether you are trying to sell, or just want to have the best-looking house on the block, here are some tips to improve the curb appeal of your home.

Owning a home comes with a lot of costs and responsibilities.  Many homeowners concentrate on the inside of the home, and putting money into things like a new kitchen, or bathroom upgrade.

Don’t neglect the exterior, as making your home attractive on the outside, not only leads to higher resale values, but higher levels of owner satisfaction.

Front Garden

A well-manicured front garden makes for an inviting impression.

If your grass is ailing, you can fertilize and water it to make it lush and inviting. If you have bare spots, fill them in with new turf or seed them so that your entire garden is green and rich.  Make sure your lawn is neatly trimmed and edged.

Trim any shrubs or trees.  Install edging and add flowering plants.  If you have pathways, make sure they are clean and orderly and invite the visitor into the property.

Windows

Clean your windows both inside and out.  Dirty windows not only make your home darker and less comfortable, but they will also act as a turn-off to visitors or potential buyers.

You can clean your windows yourself using vinegar and water.  This is a very inexpensive way to improve your home appearance.

If you have a larger home and the idea of climbing a ladder is daunting, consider using the best window cleaning in Perth to handle the task for you.

Driveway

Make sure your driveway is clean.  Oil stains, or other unsightly blemishes, can discourage potential buyers.  Give it a good cleaning with a pressure washer and stain removal chemicals.  Once that’s done you can reseal the driveway itself.  This can all done as a weekend DIY project.

Create a zone to define the edges of your drive.  This can be done by adding colourful flowers or using pathway lighting.

Exterior Fences

If you have fences bordering your property, make sure they are in good repair and freshly painted.  Picket fences can be sanded and have a fresh coat of paint applied.  Rock walls or other hardscape barriers should be free from moss and weeds.

Front Door

Add some colour to your home, by applying a fresh coat of paint to your front door.  Even if you have a neutral colour door, you can update and refresh its look by adding new paint.

New hardware on your door is another easy inexpensive upgrade.  Don’t forget to put down a new doormat.

New Lighting

Change your light sconces, or use your skills to spray paint and update your current ones.

If you have pathway lights, make sure they are working and straight.  Replace failing ones, and add more if your home calls for it.

You can also add string lights to highlight your porch or brighten up your backyard.

Even if you aren’t planning on selling your home, boosting your curb appeal is a way to improve your satisfaction with the home you already love.
