The Promotional Clip That Sparked Debate

Iyabo Ojo has addressed critics after facing backlash over a promotional video she recorded for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The controversy began after FAAN shared a clip on X featuring the Nollywood star praising improvements at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. In the video, Iyabo Ojo commended the upgrades and expressed pride in the visible changes.

She also reposted the clip on her page, writing that FAAN is changing for the better and that she feels proud of her country.

Mixed Reactions Over Political History

The post quickly triggered mixed reactions online, largely due to her previously known political stance. During the 2023 general election, Iyabo Ojo openly supported Peter Obi and was critical of the administration of Bola Tinubu.

As a result, some social media users questioned why she would now promote a federal agency under the current government. The timing also fueled discussion, coming amid reports that Seyi Tinubu has been engaging celebrities and influencers in support-related initiatives.

In response to online claims, FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, denied speculation that Iyabo Ojo had been awarded any contract or officially appointed as an ambassador for the agency.

“No Contract, Just Love for Nigeria”

Breaking her silence, Iyabo Ojo clarified that she was not paid for the promotional video. She stated that FAAN approached her after she had observed improvements at the airport and asked her to help share the message.

According to the actress, she agreed out of goodwill and patriotism rather than political alignment. She emphasized that acknowledging progress does not equate to abandoning her beliefs.

“I’m Nigerian, and I’m a voice,” she wrote on Instagram. “When I see progress, airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved, I speak about it—not because I’m being paid, but because I want good for my country.”

She further declared that she is willing to collaborate with any political party if the goal is national development. Stressing unity over division, she said she remains unapologetic about promoting initiatives she believes are beneficial to Nigeria.

The episode has sparked broader conversations about celebrity influence, political loyalty, and whether public figures should be confined to past affiliations. For Iyabo Ojo, however, the message appears clear: her support, she says, is for progress—regardless of party lines.
