How to create an easy-to-follow night routine

It’s not easy to create a night routine, especially when your whole life is a routine; you go to school or work every day and do the same things, meet the same people and so on. But sometimes, a routine that you create can help you balance your life when things start to take a turn.

How? This kind of routine is supposed to be your safe zone, where you recharge your batteries and take care of yourself. It is made out of constant habits: good or bad. If you think about having good habits, it might motivate you to reach your goal until it becomes part of yourself. You’ll need around 90 days to adopt a habit fully (at least that’s what specialists say), so it’s a long way to go, but we promise it’s worth it!

Exercise

If you want to exercise, you don’t have to go to the gym or follow a complicated workout. There are many options at home, or nearby the place you live, therefore it’s easy to do any exercise you want. For example, if you’re going to work out from home, you can start with basic stretching exercises to let your muscles get used to physical effort.

After a few weeks of stretching, you can try getting out of the house and taking a 30-minute walk around the neighbourhood. Then increase the timing, and after one week or two, start jogging at a slower pace. In time, it will be easier to intensify your exercises. At some point, you’ll feel the serotonin your body produces when it’s working out. The secret is to develop your activities gradually.

Take care of your skin

The next step is to find a good routine for your skincare. Nothing complicated; identify your skin type: normal, dry, oily, sensitive or a mix between some of these. If you think you need help, you can make an appointment with a dermatologist for a quick look at your skin.

After this step, it’s time to find the ideal products for your face. Most of them have the ingredients written on the label, and if you look them up on their website, you can find out if they’re good for your skin or not. For a proper face night routine, you can start by removing your makeup. Then cleanse, apply eye cream because the eye area is sensitive during the night, and moisturise. Simple!

Choose your favourite loungewear

When it comes to loungewear or pyjamas, you don’t pay attention to the materials or choose something that looks good because they’re made to be worn out. But what if you tried to put some effort into those clothes and search for something that would make you feel good?

You can try new materials, like silk, satin or bamboo. You should choose loungewear sets in a unique and vibrant design instead of plain, simple pyjamas because they’re fun to wear, and will complete your night routine. Sometimes, it might make you feel better to be dressed in something colourful. You’ll be surprised how much it can change your mood.

Start meditating

Meditation is another habit that takes time. It’s not something you can do correctly or not; it just has to make you feel connected to yourself; therefore, it will help you concentrate more throughout the day. Start slowly by listening to podcasts dedicated to this subject each night for at least 5 minutes. Then you can increase the time, add some music, change the way you’re sitting and find the optimal body position.

Then you can meditate by yourself; add some scented candles and some lights for the atmosphere. Make sure nothing interrupts you, and concentrate on your thoughts and feelings for a few minutes. You’ll notice that you can control your mind more quickly with time. Plus, consistently meditation will boost your imagination, creativity, patience, and tolerance.

Journal

Journaling sets you out for the next day, and it’s a proper tool to keep track of your progress in life. What can you add to your journal? Almost anything you like, and you can easily incorporate it into your night routine by writing at least 2 minutes a day, for example, you can write about:

  • Goals for the future (what are the most important three goals for you)
  • Habits that you want to develop daily (also choose 3 of them, and keep track of your progress each night)
  • Events from that day that you consider essential to reflect on (that’s because you’re more relaxed and  can control your emotions better to see things objectively)

Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t feel right initially because you might not be used to talking to yourself openly, but that’s exactly the goal; to be honest and kind to yourself. Also, this exercise will help you avoid overthinking before sleep because you’ve already taken care of those thoughts.

Create the perfect environment for a good sleep

Last, but not least, the climate setting of your room is an essential element that will influence your sleeping cycle. It’s possible that you’ve experienced being tired, but not able to sleep properly. This is why it is recommended to shut off all devices at least one hour before bed and let your body know that it’s time to sleep. If possible, get out and take a 5-minute walk outside in the fresh air. Alternatively, get an air purifier, it helps with breathing even if you don’t have allergies or respiratory issues. Then, come back and gradually close the lights, so you’ll fall asleep faster and easier when you get into bed.

Check the temperature in your room; it shouldn’t be too hot or too cold because the body’s temperature has to adapt to the temperature around, which will not help in getting to sleep.

Creating your step-by-step night routine should comfort you after a long, stressful day. You can consider it a way of pampering yourself, and its impact on your lifestyle will be only positive if you keep on being consistent.
