In a recent controversial statement, self-proclaimed relationship expert Blessing Okoro, also known as Blessing CEO, has sparked a debate by advising gays in Nigeria to keep their sexuality a secret and take it to the grave.

During the latest episode of her popular TV show, Moments With Blessing CEO, Okoro expressed her belief that it is not wise for individuals in Nigeria to openly disclose their homosexuality due to the societal stereotypes and stigmas attached to it.

She boldly stated, “If you are a homosexual, hide it, bury it and take it to your grave because the society condemns it.”

Okoro went on to make claims about the prevalence of homosexuality among men in Abuja and Lagos, referring to them as “gay for pay.” She also made a distinction between crossdressers and those she identified as gay, describing the latter as individuals with muscular physiques resembling gym instructors.

Furthermore, Okoro alleged that some women are aware of their husbands’ homosexual or bisexual tendencies but choose to keep it a secret due to the perceived benefits associated with the relationship.

The statements made by Blessing CEO have sparked a mix of reactions from the public, with some expressing support for her views and others condemning them as discriminatory and harmful.

The issue of LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance has been a contentious topic in Nigeria, where same-sex relationships are criminalized under the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act of 2014. The law imposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment, for individuals found guilty of engaging in homosexual activities.

Despite the legal restrictions and societal prejudices, there is a growing movement advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance in Nigeria. Activists and organizations are working to challenge the discriminatory laws and promote a more inclusive and tolerant society.

In response to Blessing CEO’s controversial remarks, LGBTQ+ rights advocates have emphasized the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for individuals to express their sexual orientation without fear of discrimination or violence.

It is crucial to recognize that everyone has the right to love and be loved, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Promoting acceptance and understanding is essential in building a more inclusive and diverse society where all individuals can live authentically and without fear of judgment.
