Buenos Aires, Argentina – The ongoing 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina has witnessed the early exit of four national teams. Senegal, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Fiji have been eliminated from the competition. The elimination followed a series of group-stage matches played over the weekend.

On Saturday, Senegal’s hope of making it through to the next stage of the competition was dashed after playing a 1-1 draw with Colombia in their final group C fixture. The match, which took place at the Pedro Bidegain Stadium, saw Senegal managing to score a goal through Sidy Mbow, but then conceding an equalizer in the 83rd minute by Colombia’s Juan David Herrera.

In the same vein, Dominican Republic saw their dream been cut short following a 3-0 loss to Italy in their final Group D stage fixture. The match, which was played at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, saw a superb performance by Italy’s Elia Petrelli, scoring a hat-trick to secure all three points for his team.

Senegal, with two points, and Dominican Republic, with zero points, have become the first teams to be eliminated from the competition. It was a big disappointment for the Senegal team, which had high expectations before the tournament began.

On Friday, Guatemala and Fiji also joined the list of eliminated teams from the tournament. Guatemala suffered a 2-0 defeat to Panama in their final Group B stage fixture, while Fiji lost 3-0 against Portugal in their Group F fixture.

The competition, which began on May 20, 2023, has seen some thrilling actions, exciting moments, and surprises, as teams battle to advance to the knockout stage.

It will be interesting to see how the competition unfolds, as the remaining teams compete fiercely for a place in the knockout stage. The FIFA U-20 World Cup is an exciting tournament that showcases young talents and offers a glimpse of future football stars.
