Wayne Rooney is expected to be left out of the England squad for upcoming games against Scotland and France, according to Sky sources.

England manager Gareth Southgate has drawn up a provisional list of names and Rooney is not on it at the moment.

Southgate will name his squad tomorrow for the World Cup qualifier against Scotland in Glasgow on June 10 and a friendly against France in Paris three days later.

Rooney was left out of Southgate’s last 26-man squad for the games against Germany and Lithuania in March.

Rooney is England’s record goalscorer with 53 goals, but he lost his place in the Manchester United first team to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the start of the season and he is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Rooney made his England debut in 2003 as a half-time substitute in a 2-1 defeat against Australia.

Since then he has played for his country 119 times. He succeeded Steven Gerrard as captain in August 2014.
