The 2025 BAFTA Awards, a celebration of cinematic excellence, saw a mix of glamour and gaffes on the red carpet. While the event honored outstanding achievements in film, some celebrities’ fashion choices left a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons. This year, the red carpet became a canvas of bold experiments, some of which unfortunately missed the mark.
A Night of Missed Opportunities for A-Listers
Demi Moore, nominated for Best Actress for her role in “The Substance,” had a night to forget, both on and off the stage. Her red carpet look, a black-and-white two-piece ensemble, failed to impress. The outfit, consisting of a textured suit jacket and a feathered skirt, seemed disjointed, creating a busy and unflattering appearance. Each piece might have worked separately, but together, they lacked cohesion.
Vera Wang, a renowned fashion icon, also faced a style setback. Her black-and-white strapless gown, featuring a wavy panel and satin skirt, was overly ambitious. While her bold choice is commendable, the design and color scheme didn’t resonate, making her look out of place. The timing, in the dead of winter, didn’t help, as the ensemble lacked the intended impact.
Bold Choices That Didn’t Quite Hit the Mark
David Tennant, the evening’s host, aimed for a standout look but ended up drawing attention for the wrong reasons. His heavily jeweled black suit, resembling a fancy bathrobe, was a misstep. While the intent was to be memorable, the execution fell short, overshadowing his role and the event’s winners.
Colman Domingo, nominated for Best Actor, took a fashion risk with a bold shirt pattern inside his leather jacket. While the attempt to add flair was noted, the execution was overwhelming. The jacket, with its loud pattern, would have been better left behind, making his overall look too harsh on the eyes.
David Tennant served as the host at the 2025 BAFTA Awards, which means he gets a little extra grace in the fashion department. After all, he had the tough job of choosing a look that would ensure he’d stand out among his celebrity peers but wouldn’t siphon too much attention away from the evening’s winners. And yet, he totally fell into the latter category. As you can see, Tennant showed up at the event wearing what can only be described as a heavily jeweled black suit that, if you squint, kind of looks like a fancy bathrobe. Again, we’re sure it could be repurposed if he tried hard enough.
Colman Domingo’s outfit was hard on the eyes
Colman Domingo was nominated in the best actor category for his role in “Sing Sing,” but he lost to Adrien Brody. That said, his red carpet look was certainly memorable and worthy of a mention, but not for any reasons he’d like. While he gets points for attempting to liven up his look with a bold, colorful shirt pattern, applying the pattern to the inner lining of his leather jacket may have been overkill. Actually, the jacket should’ve stayed behind in his hotel room, if we’re being totally honest. But again, we appreciate the risk!
Pegah Pourman almost got it right
A Designer’s Risky Fashion Move
Pegah Pourmand, a celebrated designer, showcased a floor-length white gown with a plunging neckline and feathered sleeves. While evoking old Hollywood glamour, the look was too extravagant for the BAFTAs, which typically favor understated elegance. The ensemble, though striking, was more suited to a different venue, highlighting the challenge of balancing creativity with event appropriateness.
As the 2025 BAFTAs concluded, the fashion misses left a memorable imprint, reminding us that even icons can falter. These red carpet moments, while not defining the celebrities’ talents, serve as a reminder of the risks and rewards of bold fashion choices.
