APC e-registration APC Pushes Back Against ADC Claims Over Voter Registration Drive

APC e-registration has become the latest flashpoint between Nigeria’s major political parties, and the All Progressives Congress is not hiding its irritation. The ruling party has firmly rejected allegations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that civil servants were forced to sign up during APC’s ongoing electronic membership exercise.

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described the accusation as completely false. Not just misleading, but deliberately so. According to him, the claims are part of a wider effort by the ADC to stir doubt and confusion around a process that, in APC’s view, is gaining genuine public support.

Morka went a step further, suggesting that this was not the first time the ADC had crossed the line. He recalled an earlier incident where the opposition party allegedly circulated a fake APC membership slip, one that attempted to link a known terrorist to the ruling party. That episode, he implied, already raised questions about the credibility of the ADC’s attacks.

From the APC’s perspective, the story is much simpler. Millions of Nigerians, Morka said, are registering freely and with enthusiasm. No pressure. No coercion. Just people responding to what the party describes as its Renewed Hope Agenda, a message it believes is resonating across the country. Perhaps not everyone agrees, but the numbers, APC insists, speak for themselves.

That surge in interest is also the reason the party extended its registration deadline. Originally set to end on January 31, the exercise will now run until February 8, 2026. Morka explained that the extension was driven by demand, not panic or logistical failure, as critics might suggest. If anything, he framed it as a sign of momentum.

Still, the APC did not hide its belief that the ADC’s reaction is rooted in fear. In his words, the opposition party appears “intimidated” by the scale and visibility of the e-registration process. And while political rivalry is expected, Morka argued that inventing allegations only cheapens democratic debate.

There was also a subtle contrast drawn. While the ADC is accused of “fumbling and peddling falsehood,” the APC says it remains focused on innovation, particularly in the digital space. Morka described the party as positioning itself as a leader in digital democracy, not just in Nigeria but across Africa. It’s a bold claim, maybe even an ambitious one, but it reflects how the APC wants this moment to be seen.

Whether the public buys that framing is another matter. For now, what’s clear is that voter registration, usually a routine political exercise, has turned into yet another battleground. And as parties trade words, the real test may lie in how Nigerians themselves respond, both online and at the polls.
