In a stunning turn of events, the Enugu State Governor, Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has emerged triumphant in a legal battle against the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). A Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the allegations of forgery of a discharge certificate brought against Governor Mbah, citing the Corps’ failure to provide substantial evidence to support their claims.

Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo, presiding over the case, delivered a resounding judgment in favor of Governor Mbah. The judge imposed a fine of N5 million on the NYSC, to be paid jointly to the governor, for suppressing facts and conspiring against him in these heinous allegations.

The court’s decision was based on the unchallenged evidence presented by Governor Mbah, detailing how the discharge certificate was lawfully issued to him in 2003 by the NYSC. The governor had served in a prestigious law firm in Lagos, fulfilling the mandatory one-year service requirement. In contrast, the NYSC failed to provide any substantial counter-evidence to support their forgery allegations.

Justice Ekwo emphasized that the burden of proof rested heavily on the NYSC, and their failure to meet this requirement weakened their case significantly. The judge found Governor Mbah’s evidence to be more credible and believable, leading to the dismissal of the allegations.

The legal battle began when Governor Mbah filed a lawsuit against the NYSC and its Director, Corps Certification, Ibrahim Muhammad. The governor took action after the NYSC published a disclaimer, denying the issuance of the discharge certificate in his possession, which was issued on January 6, 2003.

The NYSC, in a letter dated February 1, signed by Ibrahim Muhammad, claimed that they did not issue the certificate to Governor Mbah. However, the court’s ruling has now established the authenticity of the certificate and vindicated the governor’s claims.

This landmark judgment not only exonerates Governor Mbah but also highlights the importance of due process and the rule of law. It serves as a reminder that allegations must be supported by concrete evidence before tarnishing someone’s reputation.

Governor Mbah expressed his gratitude for the court’s decision, stating, “I have always maintained my innocence, and I am relieved that the truth has finally prevailed. This legal battle has been a challenging ordeal, but justice has been served.”

The dismissal of the forgery allegations is a significant victory for Governor Mbah, as it reinforces public trust in his leadership and integrity. It also sends a strong message to those who may attempt to tarnish the reputation of public officials without adequate evidence.

As news of the court’s ruling spreads, many are commending Justice Ekwo for his impartiality and thorough examination of the evidence. The judgment sets a precedent for future cases involving similar allegations, emphasizing the importance of substantiated claims and the need for a fair legal process.

This development also raises questions about the NYSC’s handling of such sensitive matters. The Corps will need to reevaluate its procedures and ensure that proper investigations are conducted before making damaging claims against individuals.

In conclusion, the dismissal of the forgery allegations against Governor Mbah by the Federal High Court in Abuja is a significant victory for the Enugu State Governor. The court’s ruling highlights the importance of concrete evidence in legal proceedings and serves as a reminder that allegations must be substantiated before tarnishing someone’s reputation. Governor Mbah’s exoneration reinforces public trust in his leadership and integrity, and it sets a precedent for future cases involving similar allegations.
