A Father’s Pain: Inside Mohbad’s Final Hours

It’s tough—really tough—to hear a parent talk about losing their child, especially when the story feels tangled and full of unanswered questions. That’s exactly what Mr. Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, father of the Nigerian singer Mohbad, shared recently in a heartfelt interview. He opened up about those last moments leading up to his son’s death, laying bare the confusion and heartbreak he experienced.

Conflicting Stories and Growing Doubts

On that day—September 12th—Mr. Aloba got the first unsettling call from Mohbad’s mother around late afternoon, about 4:30 pm. She said Mohbad was sick and hospitalized. That must have hit him hard; a parent always wants to be there, right? Without hesitation, he made plans to meet them at the hospital and be by his son’s side.

But when he arrived, things started to feel off. Instead of seeing Mohbad himself, he was told by the late singer’s uncle, Darosha, that Mohbad was actually getting better and that he could go home by 7 pm. Suddenly, the urgent crisis he’d been preparing for seemed to just… vanish in the space of a few hours. It’s hard not to sense something was wrong here.

Aloba admitted that this abrupt change didn’t sit well with him. The conflicting updates made his heart sink and worried him deeply. He said, “I was already sensing my son was dead, because of how they kept calling me that my son is not well and all of a sudden they said he was fine that I can go back.” That gut feeling, that creeping suspicion, is a feeling no parent ever wants but sometimes just can’t shake.

Barriers and the Bloody Truth

But it got worse. When Aloba reached his son’s house, he encountered another strange obstacle—a blocked entrance. People were crowding the place, and at first, he was even denied entry. Imagine the frustration, that helplessness of not knowing what’s really going on inside, yet being kept at a distance.

Eventually, he managed to get upstairs—where he and Mohbad usually spent time together. What he saw was chilling: a blood-soaked duvet. The image alone is haunting. You could almost feel the crushing weight of that moment just through his words. It’s not something anyone wants to witness, especially a father.

He then went on to talk about the police station visit, where he hoped to clarify things and get some real answers. But instead, he faced more frustration—being denied access to the police report because, according to them, he hadn’t reported Mohbad’s death immediately. The experience quickly became more than just grief; it was tangled with confusion and, frankly, bureaucracy.

Adding to the mystery, Aloba claimed that Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, had possession of the doctor’s report but kept quiet about it, heightening tensions and uncertainty. On top of all this, he alleges that his son’s body was embalmed without his consent, and the morgue refused to keep the body that night. These details paint a picture that’s far from the peaceful closure anyone would hope for.

When Facts Collide with Emotion

Listening to Mr. Aloba, I couldn’t help but feel the mix of emotions he’s wrestling with. On one hand, there’s sorrow and disbelief, but on the other, a sense of frustration and mistrust toward how things unfolded. It’s like he’s stuck in this limbo—not only mourning his son but also grappling with the unclear and, at times, conflicting information pouring in from different directions.

It’s hard to know what to make of all the pieces. Was it just a tragic illness? Was there something more? Some parts of his account feel almost unfinished—like there are loose ends he’s still trying to understand. Maybe that’s part of the awful reality of such moments: you never get neat, tidy answers right away.

For those following Mohbad’s story, this interview sheds light on the personal side behind the headlines—the human side. It reminds us that beyond the music, the fame, and speculation, there’s a father’s raw grief and a family struggling to piece together the truth.
