Tottenham are likely to ask to play their first four games of next season away from home while work is finished on their new stadium.

Overall completion of the stadium remains on target, but chairman Daniel Levy has confirmed the club will put contingencies in place for the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

Levy made the revelation while answering questions from the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust, and said recent bad weather and high winds had caused minor delays.

The Premier League has precedent for allowing such requests, with Liverpool two years ago, and West Ham United this season, opening with a run of away games.

Both sides kicked off with three away games in the Premier League and West Ham played their Carabao Cup first-round clash at Cheltenham Town despite being drawn at home.

Levy also confirmed the stadium would be referred to as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until naming rights are sold, but said that sale was not essential before the stadium opens.

The £850m stadium is being built on the same site as their previous White Hart Lane home and will have an LED outer shell, similar to the Allianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich.
