Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is backing a bid for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, even though they would be competing for places.

United saw a £52.4m bid for the player rejected on Tuesday night, with Real understood to want closer to £78m.

Jose Mourinho has already missed out on Antoine Griezmann after he confirmed he would be staying at Atletico Madrid.

But Rashford, who was the second top scorer at Old Trafford behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season, says Morata is exactly the sort of player the club should be after.

Morata made only 14 La Liga starts for Real Madrid but scored 20 goals last season, and appeared from the bench in Real’s Champions League final victory over Juventus.

“At a big club you are going to attract big players and that’s what we want,” Rashford told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Anyone who can come in and help the club win trophies, which is the ultimate aim, they are the players we want to bring in. Good competition is important if you want to be successful.”

Rashford was speaking ahead of England’s World Cup Qualifier against Scotland, live on Sky Sports, and says playing with the best players has helped him improve his own game.

“The way they (Ibrahimovic and Rooney) think, their mentality towards the game, they are the biggest things that I can take from their game,” Rashford added.

“I think with those type of players, whether they are here for the next five years or however long they are here for, you never stop learning from them.”
