zamfara residents lament economic hardship weeks to christmas

As this year’s Christmas celebration approaches, residents of Zamfara State have lamented the high cost of living, saying essential commodities are no longer affordable due to economic hardships.

Residents who spoke with DAILY POST in Gusau, said the inflation rate and the economic hardship are becoming unbearable especially for the families that have many children to care for.

A businessman, Emeke Ihejioha who spoke to our correspondent said he wanted to travel home to Imo State with his family but has suspended the journey due to economic hardship.

He said he sells food items but there are no buyers to patronize him, putting the blame on monumental inflation which he said the government was unable to control.

“Democracy is now more costly than the military regime. We are facing serious economic hardship in the country” he lamented.

He said the common masses struggle hard to put food on the table for their families, pointing out that the price of essential commodities continues to skyrocket on a daily basis.

“As I am talking to you now, I don’t even know how to provide even a fowl for a family of eight including myself and my wife”

Mr. Iheioha lamented that the government was not even worried about the economic plight of the people, saying that the government has totally forgotten price control.

“Nigeria is a funny country that anybody can do anything and go free without any challenge. The government is there disturbing people about monumental corruption while the corruption is deeply rooted in the government circle”

“I am stating this categorically that a time must come when the common masses will gather and pick stones to stone those behind their untold economic hardship”

“We are watching the ugly drama as it unfolds itself. Now, there is no motorcycle rider that can carry one from here to there with N50 naira. To carry a motorcycle rider to a short distance, one needs to have at least N100 naira”

Another person, Mr. Amos Akinjide condemns the hike in prices of food items and transportation, saying that the system is rotten as if there is no government in Nigeria.

He said no power is above the government control but it appears as if the government does not care about the plight of the people they claim to be governing, saying that the people in the corridors of power have entirely sold their conscience to the devils.

“They have forgotten about the day of judgment where everyone will give an account of his or her deeds before the supreme force”

“As of now, I have not bought anything like clothes for my children and the only explanation I have is nothing but economic hardship everywhere”

He maintained that democracy remains the government of the people for the people, saying that the government does not care about the economic plight of the people which he said is very necessary.
