The English FA have taken a decision on forward Raheem Sterling returning to the England squad ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-final tie with France on Saturday.

In a statement on Thursday, the FA confirmed that Sterling would return to England’s World Cup base in Qatar on Friday ahead of the France clash this weekend.

“The Chelsea forward temporarily left to attend to a family matter but is now expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah on Friday (9 December) ahead of the quarter-final with France,” the statement read.

Sterling had travelled home before the round of 16 tie against Senegal after his family home was broken into.

The Chelsea star’s home was raided by armed invaders last Saturday while his partner and young children were in the house.
