N120m boxing bout: VeryDarkMan accuses Soso Soberekon of 'disrespect'

Boxing bouts can be more than just physical contests — sometimes, they stir up a storm of words and egos outside the ring. Recently, a saga involving social media activist VeryDarkMan and music executive Soso Soberekon has unfolded in quite the dramatic fashion. The heart of the feud? A proposed boxing match with a prize offer that, according to VeryDarkMan, felt more like an insult than an opportunity.

The Offer That Sparked Controversy

It all began when Soso Soberekon publicly suggested a boxing match between VeryDarkMan and singer Portable, offering a whopping N120 million (that’s Nigerian Naira) for the fight. On the surface, that might seem like a neat sum for a bout. But, well, VeryDarkMan’s reaction was anything but polite.

He took to Instagram, where he shared a video responding to Soso’s proposal on a Sunday evening. And his message was loud and clear: he felt utterly disrespected by the offer. Now, you might wonder why N120 million wasn’t enough. After all, that’s a large amount by most standards. But here’s where it gets interesting — VeryDarkMan has some serious history with boxing offers, and his standards are sky-high.

He spoke about how, last year, he was in talks to fight none other than American rapper 50 Cent. Apparently, this was supposed to be something huge—a fight event that could have been the biggest in Africa. But the negotiations hit a snag over the money. VeryDarkMan claimed 50 Cent demanded $2 million upfront as part of a $5 million total payout, but the offer to him was just $100,000. He outright refused, standing firm on his worth and asking for $1 million instead. That deal didn’t pan out.

Adding to this, VeryDarkMan mentioned he was approached again this year with another offer, but again the numbers didn’t match his expectations. So, when Soso came in with an N120 million offer—much less than what he deemed fair—it felt like a slap in the face.

The Value of Self-Respect

VeryDarkMan didn’t hold back. He emphasized how much charity work he’s done recently and argued that N100 million (approximately—curiously he mentioned that number in his statement) couldn’t even buy a decent house in Abuja, the Nigerian capital. For him, the sum offered didn’t reflect his value or what he brings to the table.

He even challenged Soso to come up with $500,000 first before discussing anything further. And then, in a tone that suggested a mix of disbelief and frustration, he questioned whether Soso even had that kind of money. There was a real edge to his words—not just about money but about respect.

He ended with a caution: if Soso doesn’t have the money or respect, he should stop dragging VeryDarkMan’s name into this spectacle.

What Does This Say About Celebrity Boxing?

This whole episode makes you think about the crossover between fame, money, and sport. Boxing matches with celebrities or influencers have become something of a trend worldwide. But unlike professional boxing, where payouts and negotiations are relatively straightforward, these celebrity bouts can get tangled up in ego, public image, and showmanship.

VeryDarkMan’s story highlights how personal these negotiations can get. It’s not just about the money—it’s about pride and perceived respect. And you can almost feel the tension when he talks about knowing his worth but still seemingly doubting whether Soso truly respects him or is serious about the fight.

Interestingly, he also mentioned that Tunde Ednut, a known figure in social media circles, was involved in some capacity with his previous deals. His phone, he said, is with EFCC (the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission), which adds a curious twist to the story. It’s enough to make you wonder what’s going on behind the scenes.

The Unfolding Drama

No doubt, the drama will continue unfolding on social media. Bet there’ll be responses, maybe counter-offers, or further insults flying back and forth. And who knows? Perhaps these heated exchanges might eventually lead to a real fight. Or maybe it will just simmer down like so many internet feuds do—full of fire in the moment, but quiet later on.

For now, it’s a story full of tension, expectations, and a reminder that sometimes the biggest battles happen outside the ring.
