US President Donald Trump has expressed his “eternal gratitude” for the work of US troops in Iraq, on an unannounced Christmas visit to meet service personnel at al-Asad air base west of Baghdad.
He spoke about his recent decision to withdraw US troops from Syria, saying “America shouldn’t be doing the fighting for every nation on Earth”.
