Tionne Watkins, known for her role in the popular girl group TLC, has been open about her struggles with sickle cell disease. However, the singer has also faced another serious health challenge – a non-cancerous brain tumor. Watkins revealed her diagnosis to CNN in 2011, recounting how her frequent headaches led to the discovery of the tumor. “My doctor called but his voice sounded funny. And I said, ‘You’re going to say something like I have a brain tumor or something right?’ And he got quiet,” she shared.

The news of her brain tumor diagnosis was particularly distressing given the complications associated with her sickle cell disease. Finding a surgeon willing to operate on her was a difficult task. “They were like, ‘No, I’m sorry, sickle cell is a factor, that’s your reality and you can die,'” Watkins recalled in an interview with CBS News in 2009. Despite the challenges, Watkins was determined to undergo the surgery, hoping it would improve her quality of life. “I’m still going through old school surgery and I want to find that person who I have faith in saving my hearing and even trying to just save me, save my face, save my balance, try, just try,” she said.

Ultimately, Watkins found a skilled neurosurgeon, Dr. Keith Black, who successfully removed the tumor. The surgery was a significant milestone in her ongoing battle with health issues.
