Krysten Ritter is a big Hollywood star now, but she actually had very humble beginnings. As Timers leader reported in 2015, Ritter “was raised on a 100-acre cattle farm outside Shickshinny” in Pennsylvania. In a revealing interview with Playboy in 2012, Ritter talked about life on the farm, explaining, “My stepfather called horses ‘hay burners.’ They do nothing. You can’t milk them and you can’t eat them, so we didn’t have them. But I had a calf I raised named Jake.”

By all accounts, Jake was a huge part of Ritter’s life, as she told Playboy, “He was so small that when I got him, I could pick him up. We took naps together and snuggled.” Recalling how she’d sometimes get on Jake’s back, she said, “People would drive by and take pictures, like, ‘Who is this girl riding a cow?'” While it’s hard to imagine the Confessions of a Shopaholic actress being best friends with a cow, it’s definitely endearing to hear.

Ritter embraced life on the farm, explaining to Times Leader, “I did all kinds of chores,” noting that she fed the chickens and cows. Of her quiet childhood, the actress shared, “My mom says I was always dancing around and screaming for attention.” It sounds as though Ritter was destined for stardom from the start.
