In a pre-match statement, Nigeria forward Moses Simon has cautioned the Super Eagles not to underestimate their upcoming opponent, Guinea-Bissau, as both teams gear up for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) encounter at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

Simon emphasized the need for caution, pointing out that Guinea-Bissau had previously secured a victory over the Super Eagles during the AFCON qualifiers. While Nigeria enters the match on the back of a 1-0 triumph against Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau suffered a 4-2 defeat against Equatorial Guinea.

“We have to keep fighting hard and not underrate our next opponent, Guinea-Bissau. They beat us in the qualifiers, which is enough for us to be wary of them,” Simon stressed during an interaction with reporters in the build-up to Nigeria’s clash with Guinea-Bissau.

Simon expressed optimism about Nigeria’s prospects, acknowledging that the team’s fate is within their control. He highlighted the significance of the recent victory over Ivory Coast, emphasizing the need for continued effort and focus to progress further in the tournament.

“The good thing is that everything is in our hands now. We know what to do to be in the next round. The victory over Ivory Coast has helped us a lot,” he stated. “The most important thing now is for us to keep doing our best in training and on matchdays. It is still a long way to go for us, but the key thing is to remain positive and keep working towards achieving our target.”

As the Super Eagles prepare to face Guinea-Bissau, Simon’s words serve as a reminder of the potential challenges posed by their opponents and the importance of maintaining a resilient mindset.
