In a bid to combat the prevalent security challenges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has called upon officers and men of the Command to actively engage in intelligence gathering.

During a recent briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja, CSC Idoko Samuel, the FCT Command’s Public Relations Officer, revealed that the commandant emphasized the need for proactive intelligence gathering to address the current security concerns in the territory.

Addressing the personnel, Odumosu stressed that the criminals causing havoc in the region were not invisible entities, but rather members of the various communities. He urged the officers to step up efforts by fully activating the intelligence architecture to identify these individuals and ensure they are brought to justice.

Expressing concern over the influx of bandits, particularly in communities situated in the hinterlands and fringes of the FCT, the commandant highlighted that their activities were being fueled by the porous borders shared with neighboring states such as Niger, Kaduna, and Nasarawa.

Odumosu underscored the importance of heightened collaboration and cooperation between the personnel and the public, emphasizing the need for a seamless exchange of vital information to effectively combat the rising insecurity in the region.

“While our battle against vandals continues, we must also focus on the alarming issue of kidnapping, which has unfortunately become a common occurrence in the FCT. Without reliable information, the hands of security agencies are tied,” he emphasized.

The Commandant took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Minister of the FCT, Barr Nyesom Wike, for his unwavering support to the security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory. He assured the minister and other residents of the FCT that the current situation would soon be brought to a decisive end.

The call for enhanced intelligence gathering comes amidst a backdrop of increasing security concerns in the FCT, with criminal activities such as banditry and kidnapping posing significant threats to the safety and well-being of residents. The NSCDC’s proactive stance and emphasis on intelligence gathering signal a strategic shift towards a more targeted and effective approach to curbing insecurity in the region.

By prioritizing intelligence, the NSCDC aims to not only identify and apprehend perpetrators but also to prevent and deter criminal activities, ultimately fostering a safer environment for the residents of the FCT.

In his directive to the personnel, the Commandant’s emphasis on the importance of community engagement and collaboration reflects a nuanced understanding of the interconnected nature of security and the critical role that local communities play in providing valuable information and support to security agencies.

The NSCDC’s commitment to leveraging intelligence as a cornerstone of its security strategy not only underscores its adaptability in the face of evolving security threats but also reflects a forward-looking approach that aligns with contemporary security best practices.

The proactive stance taken by the NSCDC serves as a testament to the organization’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the FCT. By prioritizing intelligence gathering and fostering collaboration with local communities, the NSCDC is poised to make significant strides in addressing the prevailing security challenges and creating a more secure environment for all residents.
