As the 2027 elections draw near, stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State are taking significant steps to solidify unity within the party. In a recent gathering in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, the former councillors and key party representatives came together to address pressing issues and explore strategies to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure.
Meeting of Minds
The meeting was hosted by the Association of Former Councillors of the PDP in Birnin Kudu and served as a platform for open dialogue among attendees. Former councillor Ado Nagoda from Surko Ward led the discussions and shared his insights with local media. He emphasized the importance of coming together to prevent any potential fragmentation within the party.
“We organized this meeting to ensure that we stay united,” Nagoda said, asserting that unity is vital for the PDP’s success in the upcoming elections. He noted that representatives from all eleven wards in Birnin Kudu participated, showcasing a shared commitment among former officials to fortify the party’s foundation.
The discussions were rooted in recognizing various challenges facing the PDP and addressing possible rifts that could weaken their position leading up to the elections. Nagoda articulated concerns over factions emerging within the party, stating that it was essential to work collectively to maintain cohesion and fortify local leadership.

A Call for Loyalty and Focus
The atmosphere during the meeting was one of resolve. Stakeholders voiced their commitment to the party and vowed to dispel any attempts by individuals seeking to create factions for personal gain. Nagoda expressed disappointment over recent defections but reassured members that the PDP’s structural integrity remains unshaken.
“Despite the challenges and some defections that have occurred, our party’s foundation is strong,” Nagoda asserted. “We must remain loyal and committed to the principles of the PDP, especially as we look ahead to the elections.” He urged all members to embrace the core ideology of the PDP, which emphasizes democracy, effective leadership, and good governance.
He lamented that some individuals within the party have sought to weaken its unity by promoting discord. “Certain members, lacking in genuine democratic values, have attempted to divert supporters’ attention towards personal ambitions under the guise of political loyalty,” he explained. Such actions, he warned, threaten the party’s objective of serving the community effectively.
Refocusing on Core Ideals
Nagoda pointed to past leadership, specifically referencing the vision of former Governor Sule Lamido, as a guiding force for the party. The meeting aimed to refocus members on the PDP’s commitment to core values, which center around true democracy and accountable governance. By reinforcing these ideals, the group hopes to inspire a renewed sense of purpose among party members.
The gathering concluded with a collective agreement among participants to work collaboratively towards enhancing the PDP’s presence in Jigawa State. They recognize that the road to the 2027 elections will involve not just campaigning, but also reinforcing party unity and public trust.
As the political landscape evolves, the PDP in Jigawa appears to be taking this proactive approach at a crucial juncture. The commitment to transparency, democratic principles, and teamwork may be key assets as they head towards the upcoming election period, facing both challenges and opportunities.
As the stakes rise in the political arena, the PDP’s emphasis on unity and shared purpose could prove vital for its success in the forthcoming elections.
