In a significant move aimed at solidifying its influence and mobilizing grassroots support, the Obidient Movement has officially announced the formation of a 13-member interim State Coordinating Council (SCC) for Kaduna State. This development marks a critical step in the organization’s efforts to deepen its political footprint in Northern Nigeria and drive robust advocacy ahead of the 2027 elections.

New Leadership Takes Charge in Kaduna

The newly constituted council was confirmed through an official communication from the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa. In his letter, Yunusa emphasized that this interim team will serve as the vanguard for service, inclusion, and people-first leadership within Kaduna State. He highlighted the council’s role in strengthening grassroots mobilization, fostering political awareness, and coordinating partnerships with civil society and faith-based organizations.

Elder Yusuf Solomon Danbaki has been appointed State Coordinator, bringing a wealth of experience to the post. Supporting him are Lawal Umar as Secretary, Barrister Kate Issue as Legal Advisor, and Muhammed Liman as Grassroots Mobilizer. The rest of the council comprises Jemimah Ebiega, Malam Ilyasu Muhammad, Natty Auta, Malam Jabir Ibrahim Yaro, Tinok Andrew, Comrade Daniel Ejembi, Malam Usman Aliyu, Saratu Larai Shekari, and Danjuma Saleh.

Speaking about the appointments, Dr. Yunusa stated, “This council embodies our resolve to build a New Nigeria from the ground up. We are committed to service, inclusion, and putting people first. The council members have been carefully selected to champion these values and to meaningfully engage the people of Kaduna.”

Strategic Role in Nigeria’s Political Landscape

The establishment of Kaduna’s SCC fits within the larger strategic framework of the Obidient Movement’s national agenda. Yunusa pointed out that Kaduna’s socio-political importance in Northern Nigeria elevates the significance of these appointments. “The Obidient Movement continues to consolidate its presence nationwide, and Kaduna’s SCC is positioned to play a pivotal role in our 2027 political strategy,” he said.

One of the council’s core missions will be to raise political consciousness among the populace, making it easier for citizens to engage actively in governance issues. This push for political education is designed to empower individuals and communities to demand accountability and better service delivery from their leaders.

In addition, the council will coordinate advocacy campaigns tailored to Kaduna’s unique challenges, ensuring that local concerns are effectively communicated across broader platforms. By collaborating with a diverse range of civil society groups and religious organizations, the movement aims to build coalitions that transcend ethnic and religious divides, fostering a more unified front for change.

The National Coordinator also urged all appointees to confirm their roles through the Obidient Movement’s official National Coordinating Committee (NCC) platform, reinforcing the movement’s transparent and structured approach to leadership selection and management.

A Broader Vision for Grassroots Impact

The formation of the interim SCC in Kaduna is a testament to the Obidient Movement’s grassroots-first approach, which focuses on rallying ordinary citizens around shared goals of good governance and national renewal. By empowering local leaders and advocates, the movement seeks to lay a strong foundation for sustainable political transformation.

As Kaduna takes its place on the movement’s national map, the coordinated efforts of this interim council will be watched closely by political analysts and residents alike. Their capacity to engage communities, organize advocacy efforts, and build meaningful alliances will shape the trajectory not only of the Obidient Movement in Kaduna but also its broader ambitions across Nigeria.

With just a few years remaining until the critical 2027 elections, the actions and strategies deployed by the Kaduna SCC may well become a blueprint for similar efforts in other states, signaling a mature, focused, and increasingly influential force in Nigerian politics.
