In a recent Instagram post, veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde took Turkish Airlines to task for what she perceives as discrimination against African travelers. The actress, who recently endured a grueling 40-hour flight, expressed her disappointment over the airline’s failure to feature any Nigerian movies during her journey.

Jalade-Ekeinde, known for her outspoken nature and advocacy for African representation in the entertainment industry, did not mince words in her criticism of the airline’s in-flight entertainment offerings. She pointed out that while movies from Turkey, Asia, Bollywood, Hollywood, and the Middle East were available, not a single Nollywood film was included in the lineup.

“Dear @turkishairlines, like many other foreign companies, you might be discriminating against African destinations and travelers, and that needs to stop,” the actress wrote in her Instagram post. “The obvious lack of details or respect shown towards African paying customers spilled onto the on-ground staff relationship.”

The actress also recounted an unexpected layover in Uganda that was not part of her original travel itinerary, adding to the frustration of her already lengthy journey. She questioned the airline’s lack of consideration for African travelers, who often pay higher fees for flights to other parts of the globe.

“African travelers sometimes pay higher fees to other parts of the globe, so I wonder; Why blatant disrespect and discrimination?” Jalade-Ekeinde wrote.

The actress’s public call-out of Turkish Airlines has sparked a conversation about the representation of African culture and entertainment on a global scale. Many of her followers expressed solidarity with her stance, citing similar experiences of feeling marginalized or overlooked by international companies.

As an influential figure in the Nigerian entertainment scene, Jalade-Ekeinde’s advocacy for fair treatment and representation is resonating with audiences both at home and abroad. Her willingness to speak out against perceived injustices serves as a reminder of the importance of amplifying diverse voices and perspectives in all facets of society.
