luis rubiales decides against resigning as spanish fa president over jenni hermoso kiss

Spanish FA president, Luis Rubiales on Friday, decided not to resign, five days after he forcefully kissed Spain striker Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the country’s World Cup celebrations.

Rubiales spoke at an RFEF Extraordinary General Assembly on Friday, saying he will “fight to the end”.

The 46-year-old refused to resign in a defiant speech, during which he spoke of “unjust” campaigns and “fake feminism.”

Recall that Hermoso had said she “did not enjoy it” in the aftermath of the incident and later called for Rubiales’ actions to ‘not go unpunished’.

The moment occurred when Rubiales was congratulating Hermoso for her role in defeating England 1-0 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Sydney last Sunday.

Rubiales had been reported as stepping down on Friday (today), where he would be replaced by Pedro Rocha as the new president of the Federation.

However, he spectacularly claimed he would not be stepping down.
