Rivers United Secure Crucial Victory over Dakkada in Disrupted NPFL Match

Albert Korvah’s goal secured a crucial victory for Rivers United as they defeated Dakkada 1-0 in a highly contested matchday 14 encounters of the Nigeria Premier Football League. The match which was originally scheduled for Sunday had to be postponed to Monday morning due to heavy rainfall which left the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium waterlogged.

Rivers United started the game brightly and took an early lead thanks to a well-taken goal from Albert Korvah. The goal came in the 15th minute after some clever build-up play from the home side. Korvah showed great composure and skill as he rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an empty net to put his side ahead.

Despite the early setback, Dakkada continued to fight back and created several chances to level the scoreline. However, they were unable to convert their opportunities into goals, as Rivers United held firm and defended resolutely.

The game was then stopped in the 54th minute due to heavy rainfall which made the pitch unplayable. The match officials had no choice but to postpone the game until the following morning.

As play resumed on Monday morning, Rivers United continued to dominate proceedings and created several chances to extend their lead. However, Dakkada defended well and was able to keep the scoreline at 1-0.

The victory was a crucial one for Rivers United as they moved up to a second position in Group B, just three points behind leaders Lobi Stars. Lobi Stars suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat to Bayelsa United in Yenagoa on Sunday, which gave Rivers United an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table.

On the other hand, Dakkada were left to rue another agonizing defeat, which saw them remain rooted to the bottom of the table. They have struggled to find their form this season and will need to turn things around quickly if they hope to avoid relegation.

Speaking after the game, Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma expressed his satisfaction with his side’s performance and praised his players for their resilience in difficult conditions. He said, “It was a difficult game for us, especially with the heavy rain and the postponement. But my players showed great character and determination to get the win. We are now in a good position to challenge for the top spot, and we will continue to work hard to achieve our objectives.”

The victory was a much-needed boost for Rivers United, who have been in good form in recent weeks. They will now turn their attention to their next match, which is an away fixture against Kwara United. Dakkada, on the other hand, will need to regroup and come back stronger in their next game, which is a home fixture against Warri Wolves.
