Inside the Lavish Spending Habits of HGTV Stars and Their High-End Lifestyles

The lavish spending habits of HGTV stars have always been a bit fascinating to watch. Maybe it’s because these are people we first saw renovating homes, talking budgets, and sometimes even trying to save money where they could. Then suddenly, you look a little closer, and you realize their personal lives tell a very different story. A much more expensive one.

From luxury jewelry to private planes, it seems like success on HGTV has opened doors to a lifestyle that goes far beyond simple home improvement. And honestly, while some of these choices feel understandable, others might make you pause for a second.

Big Purchases, Bigger Statements

Take Jonathan Scott, for example. His relationship with Zooey Deschanel made headlines, but it was the engagement ring that really caught attention. He proposed with a ring from Van Cleef & Arpels, reportedly costing around $42,900.

Now, to be fair, engagement rings are often expensive. But still, that’s not exactly a small purchase.

Jonathan and his twin brother Drew Scott also seem to enjoy spending on their personal interests. Drew once shared that he has invested quite a lot into his sword collection. At one point, he even had a custom suit of armor made, which cost about $8,000. It sounds almost like something out of a movie, doesn’t it?

And then there are their shared hobbies. The brothers have recorded music together, releasing songs like “Hold On” and “Let the Light Shine In.” It’s not entirely clear how profitable that venture is, but it does show they’re willing to spend money pursuing passions outside television.

Another interesting detail—they reportedly enjoy escape rooms. Not just occasionally, but hundreds of them across different cities. That kind of hobby might sound fun at first, but when you think about the cost over time, it probably adds up quickly.

Island Living and Expensive Adventures

When it comes to going all out, Sarah Baeumler and Bryan Baeumler might be in a league of their own.

The couple, known for shows like “Renovation Island,” made a bold move when they purchased a resort property in the Bahamas. The property, originally called Emerald Palms, was bought for $2 million. That alone is a huge investment. But what came next is what really stands out.

They spent an additional $10 million renovating the resort into what is now known as Caerula Mar Club. Interestingly, they had initially planned to spend much less—around $4 million. Somehow, the project ended up costing far more than expected.

And honestly, that happens more often than people think, especially with large renovation projects. Still, going that far over budget takes a certain level of financial comfort.

Their lifestyle doesn’t stop at real estate. The Baeumlers are known for enjoying water-based activities like boating, fishing, waterskiing, and diving. Anyone familiar with these hobbies knows they’re not cheap. Equipment, maintenance, travel—it all adds up.

They also own multiple boats and even keep one in the Florida Keys for trips to the Bahamas. And in 2022, they took things a step further by buying a private plane, which Bryan learned to fly himself.

It’s the kind of lifestyle that feels almost unreal for the average person. But for them, it seems perfectly normal.

Building Empires and Spending Smart

Then there’s Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines, who have turned their fame into something much bigger.

Their journey started with “Fixer Upper,” but it didn’t stop there. Over time, they built what many now call the Magnolia empire. One of their major investments was expanding Magnolia Market at the Silos, which reportedly cost around $10.4 million.

That space has grown into more than just a market. It includes shops, restaurants, gardens, and even bakeries. It’s almost like a full experience rather than a simple shopping location.

Their business ventures now stretch across books, home décor, rentals, and even their own television network. At some point, their brand became much bigger than HGTV itself.

But they don’t just invest—they also spend on personal lifestyle choices. In 2025, they purchased a Colorado mountain home for about $5.5 million, planning to renovate it for a special series.

They also show up at high-profile events in designer outfits, which, while expected, still highlights the level they operate on now.

Luxury Living in the Spotlight

Christina Haack offers another perspective on the lavish spending habits of HGTV stars.

Despite personal challenges, including multiple divorces, she still maintains a strong financial position. Her $12 million home in Newport Beach says a lot about her lifestyle.

Beyond real estate, she has ventured into business with her champagne brand, Clé Cachée. The brand itself leans heavily into luxury marketing, showing images of designer items and upscale settings. It’s less about just selling a drink and more about selling a lifestyle.

She also frequently shares glimpses of her life on social media—designer bags, stylish outfits, and travel to different destinations. Sometimes tropical beaches, sometimes mountain getaways.

It creates a picture that feels aspirational, but also a little distant from everyday reality.

At the same time, it’s worth noting that maintaining that kind of lifestyle likely requires continuous effort. Television deals, brand partnerships, and business ventures all play a role.

The lavish spending habits of HGTV stars, in a way, reflect both their success and the pressure to maintain a certain image. It’s not always just about enjoying wealth. Sometimes it feels like part of the job.

And maybe that’s the part people don’t always see.
