In a recent statement that seeks to clarify any lingering doubts about the future of governance in Ebonyi State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has robustly denied claims suggesting that Governor Francis Nwifuru intends to step down after a single term in office in 2027. The party’s assertion is a strong reaffirmation of its commitment to continuity and stability.

APC Reassures Citizens

On Sunday, Ogbuatu Chidi Simbad, the Publicity Secretary of Ebonyi APC, addressed the media to express the party’s position regarding Nwifuru’s tenure. He stated unequivocally, “Let this be clear: Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is not leaving after four years. There was no agreement to the contrary, and any such claim is false and misleading.” This statement was aimed at dispelling rumors that have circulated regarding the governor’s future, insisting that no discussions or contracts have ever been made to suggest a planned exit after Nwifuru’s current four-year term.

Moreover, Ogbuatu emphasized that the narrative of a planned departure was an unfounded fabrication. He pointed out, “There was never any agreement to stop a man who is fulfilling destiny.” His remarks not only questioned the credibility of the claims but also reinforced the party’s trust in Governor Nwifuru’s abilities to lead the state toward its projected goals.

Historically, Ogbuatu noted, no governor of Ebonyi State has completed just one term, and it is a tradition that the party intends to uphold. “History supports continuity, and today is no different,” he added, presenting a strong case for the need for ongoing leadership as the state works toward progress.

A Call for Unity and Focus

As tensions rise from the ongoing political discussions, Ogbuatu urged citizens to remain focused on the administration’s achievements rather than getting lost in distractions from a few individuals with differing agendas. “A few individuals who once watched from the sidelines are trying to distract and confuse the people. But their imagination only reveals the content of their own minds. Ebonyians know better,” he explained. This statement serves as a reminder that unity among the constituents is vital for maintaining the state’s progress.

The APC’s emphasis on good governance and its non-negotiable stance against intimidation were highlighted during Ogbuatu’s address. He insisted, “The strength of the APC in Ebonyi was not built through intimidation or force. It was built on unity, humility, peace, and most importantly, good governance.” This call for calm and collective effort is particularly timely, as the party faces ongoing challenges in public perception and political rivalries.

Acknowledging the governor’s accomplishments so far, Ogbuatu commended Nwifuru’s visionary leadership. He stated, “It is no longer news that Ebonyi State, under the dynamic leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, is on the right path to greatness.”

Under Nwifuru’s administration, the party has expressed its commitment to the continuous development of the state, focusing on economic stability and infrastructural advancements. “Governance is a continuum, and this present government is committed to sustaining progressive policies for lasting economic and infrastructural growth,” noted Ogbuatu.

New Beginnings and Reconciliations

Looking ahead, Ogbuatu also mentioned the proactive measures being taken by the APC under the leadership of Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha. He revealed that the party has been actively engaged in reconciliatory efforts with various aggrieved members during Okoro-Emegha’s tours across Ebonyi’s 13 council areas and 171 wards. This outreach is aimed at fostering inclusivity, peace, and unity within the party, reinforcing the message that every voice matters in the APC’s quest for progress.

As the political landscape in Ebonyi continues to evolve, the APC’s recent declaration serves not only as a reassurance to the residents but also as a commitment to maintaining the momentum of development and continuity in governance. The party’s focus remains firmly on advancing the interests of the people, affirming that unity and cooperation are essential for the state’s future success.
