Nigerian Music Star Shares His Take on Heartbreak and Relationships

Adedamola Adefolahan, better known as Fireboy DML, has captivated fans with his melodic tunes and relatable lyrics. Yet, amid the emotional expression in his music, the Nigerian singer recently revealed a surprising truth: he has never gone through heartbreak. In a candid conversation on the popular 90s Baby Show, Fireboy shared his unique perspective on love, heartbreak, and self-awareness in relationships.

Heartbreak? Not on Fireboy’s Radar—At Least Not Yet

At 29 years old, the “Playboy” crooner admits that he once thought experiencing heartbreak was a necessary chapter in life. However, after reflecting deeply and even discussing the matter with women he had been involved with, he swiftly changed his mind.

“I have never had my heart broken,” he told the show’s hosts. “I even wanted to experience heartbreak once, but not anymore — at my age, I feel it would ruin me.”

This frank admission stands out, especially given the intense emotional themes woven through Fireboy’s songs. But the artist believes that heartbreak is a painful ordeal that can impact both personal wellbeing and professional focus.

He elaborated, “I did my research. I asked a few ladies I knew intimately what heartbreak felt like. The answers I got were not pleasant at all. So, I reconsidered.”

Fireboy’s Theory: We Often Break Our Own Hearts

Perhaps more intriguing than his avoidance of heartbreak is Fireboy’s philosophy about how emotional pain comes to be. He suggests that heartbreak is largely self-inflicted — that many who suffer it could have avoided it by paying attention to warning signs or trusting their instincts.

He said, “I think we break our own hearts. That is my theory. Ninety percent of the time, if you have your heartbroken, look inward—you definitely had something to do with it. There were moments you noticed the signs, times your gut told you to stop, but you ignored it because the heart wants what it wants.”

The singer emphasized that heartbreak might not just be random bad luck or the fault of others, but often a consequence of choices made despite clear signals. This inner reflection points to maturity in handling emotions and relationships.

Balancing Emotions and Career

Fireboy DML’s reluctance to endure heartbreak also comes from a practical standpoint. With his career flourishing, he is aware that emotional distress can be disruptive. At this critical phase in his life, maintaining his mental and creative well-being is paramount.

By sharing these insights, Fireboy shows a side of himself that many might not expect from a global music sensation—someone who weighs emotional risks carefully and chooses peace of mind over painful experiences.

As fans continue to resonate with his heartfelt lyrics, this new understanding of Fireboy’s personal life adds depth to his artistry. His reflections on self-awareness and emotional responsibility offer lessons not just for relationships but for life in general.
