Federal Housing Authority Halts Construction in Key Areas of Abuja

In a significant move that has sent ripples through the construction landscape of Abuja, the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has announced the suspension of all development activities in its estates located in Lugbe, Karu, and Kubwa. This directive, which aims to ensure compliance with housing regulations, was delivered by the FHA’s Managing Director and CEO, Oyetunde Ojo, in a statement released to the media on Sunday.

A Call for Compliance

The suspension encompasses all forms of construction within the defined FHA estates. Ojo’s announcement underscores the Authority’s commitment to enforcing regulatory standards within its housing projects. As part of this initiative, Ojo instructed all developers operating within the affected areas to personally report to the FHA Head Office located at No 26, Julius Nyerere Crescent, Asokoro, Abuja, starting from February 3.

According to the statement, developers will be required to bring essential documentation to facilitate the review process. This documentation includes letters of allocation, approved building plans, payment receipts, and any relevant documents that prove ownership of the properties in question. Additionally, evidence of any change of ownership, such as consent letters, must also be presented.

This directive comes in the wake of increasing concerns over unregulated construction and development within FHA estates. Ojo emphasized the seriousness of adhering to the directives. He noted that developers who choose to ignore these guidelines will face strict sanctions, which could include fines and other penalties. His stern warning indicates that the FHA is taking a no-nonsense approach to enforcement, reflecting a broader intent to maintain the integrity of Abuja’s housing landscape.
