Erigga, the Nigerian hip-hop artist, has opened up about the challenges he faced growing up and the unexpected demands from his father now that he has achieved success. Erhiga Agarivbie, popularly known as Erigga, revealed that his father was not involved in his upbringing, but now feels entitled to his wealth.

In a candid interview on the Spill With Phyna podcast, the Warri-born rapper shared his personal journey, highlighting the struggles he endured from a young age. Despite facing adversity and having to fend for himself from as early as eight years old, Erigga found solace in music and made a name for himself in the industry.

Reflecting on his tumultuous upbringing, Erigga expressed his disbelief at his father’s sudden expectations, stating, “When you see parents start feeling entitled, it doesn’t make sense because you had many years ahead of me, why didn’t you make it before me? The artist delved into the hardships he faced while growing up, recounting the risky situations he found himself in and the absence of parental guidance. “I was facing the street alone. I was involved in too many things that I can’t even say on camera. And I just keep wondering like what if I was shot or arrested? Because most of the people I was with then are either dead or in jail,” Erigga shared.

Despite the challenges, Erigga remained resilient and focused on his passion for music. He revealed, “I’ve to start raising myself at the age of 8. I started living with my friends and learning bad habits. But then again, I fell in love with music at a very tender age so I knew where I wanted to be regardless of where I was.”

After years of hard work and dedication, Erigga achieved success in the music industry, but his newfound prosperity brought unexpected demands from his estranged father. “Then many years later, I now become Erigga then somebody comes and say, ‘Yo! You’re not taking care of me. You’re not doing this and that.’ And I’m like, ‘Bro, na relations we be because you no father the father wey you suppose father normally. I don father myself alone. And I can’t give you the credit,” he expressed.
