In the realm of iconic sitcoms, “Perfect Strangers” holds a special place in the hearts of millions. Bronson Pinchot, who portrayed the endearing Balki Bartokomous, won over audiences with his infectious enthusiasm and charming portrayals. As ABC’s legendary “TGIF” programming block’s anchor, the sitcom became a household favorite.

“Balki, a distant cousin of newly minted Chicago resident Larry (Mark Linn-Baker), moves in with his American relative. Larry teaches Balki the ways of ’80s America, which for Balki means lots of enthusiastic misunderstandings about the pop culture of the day — and hilarity ensues,” explained Pinchot’s character’s endearing premise.

After eight successful seasons, “Perfect Strangers” bid farewell in 1993, leaving behind a lasting legacy. Pinchot, however, was determined to carve out a niche beyond his beloved role. He transitioned into another sitcom called “The Trouble with Larry.” Unfortunately, the show’s journey was short-lived as it faced cancellation. Pinchot’s subsequent CBS sitcom, “Meego,” suffered a similar fate.

Despite these setbacks, Pinchot demonstrated his versatility by making guest appearances on popular shows like “Step by Step,” “NCIS,” and “Ray Donovan.” He also showcased his acting prowess in celebrated films of the era, including “True Romance” and “The First Wives Club.” Yet, Pinchot’s career took an unexpected turn when he decided to leave Hollywood for the small town of Harford, Pennsylvania.

In Harford, Pinchot immersed himself in a new venture that allowed him to explore his passion for home design. With his remarkable eye for aesthetics and a knack for restoring old houses, he embarked on an enchanting journey in the world of home decor. Pinchot’s dedication to his craft became the focal point of his very own renovation show called “The Bronson Pinchot Project,” which aired on the DIY Network.

“I never did love Hollywood, I just loved the work,” Pinchot shared during an interview with “Good Morning America” in 2012, shedding light on his motivations for leaving the glitz and glamour behind. Harford became a sanctuary where Pinchot could channel his creativity and forge a path away from the traditional confines of show business.

However, even amidst success in the home decor arena, Pinchot faced a challenging period on the financial front. In the mid-2010s, he found himself in a situation that led to filing for bankruptcy. To alleviate the strain, Pinchot made the decision to put his cherished Harford home up for sale.

Despite these obstacles, Pinchot’s incredible journey is a testament to the resilience and the pursuit of passion. Through his unwavering determination, he transitioned from a beloved sitcom star to a renowned authority in the realm of home design. His endearing presence and infectious enthusiasm continue to captivate audiences, whether through his memorable TV appearances or his ambitious foray into the world of renovation and decor.
