In a recent revelation by the renowned musician Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, the music industry in Nigeria seems to be facing a scarcity of genuine talent. Ruger boldly stated that the country harbors less than five truly gifted musicians, with the majority merely indulging in music for entertainment purposes.

During an exclusive interview with Cool FM in Lagos, Ruger expressed his candid views on the current state of the Nigerian music scene. The artist emphasized that a significant portion of artists in the industry are merely creating music for the sake of amusement, lacking the depth and authenticity that defines true talent.

While Ruger refrained from explicitly naming the select few he considers genuinely talented, he confidently asserted his position among them. “I’m not the biggest artiste in Nigeria but talentwise, I’m standing somewhere there. We are not up to 5,” Ruger declared, hinting at a small elite circle of musicians who prioritize artistry over commercial appeal.

Delving further into his perspective, Ruger highlighted the distinction between those who create music for the sheer joy of it and those who craft meaningful compositions that resonate with audiences on a deeper level. “Most people are just singing for cruise but we [the talented artists], we make music,” he remarked, underlining the essence of authenticity and artistry in the music industry.

In a surprising turn of events, Ruger shared his astonishment upon discovering his substantial following in Israel. The artist revealed that he successfully filled a 7,000-capacity venue in the country, showcasing the universal appeal and impact of his music beyond Nigerian borders.
