Microsoft promises a richer user experience with improved features, and hopes to take on competitors Slack.

Microsoft announced it will be making Teams its core communication application for enterprises which was until now Skype for Business.

Skype for Business took over from Lync, Microsoft’s previous business chat app, back in 2015.

The company’s corporate VP for office 365 in his public announcement said ” “Microsoft Teams will evolve as the core communications client for its cloud-connected users running Office 365. Teams will become the hero and primary experience for all voice, video and meetings.”

Though Microsoft believes that over time, chat-based workspace ”Teams” will replace the current Skype for Business client, it has taken into consideration the fact that its existing clientele using Skype might not be willing to move on too fast to a new product, and hence will be launching a server of Microsoft’s Skype for Business in 2018.
