The Saints feel that they could develop the youngster into a top player as they have done with countless others in years gone by

Watford are set to be challenged by Southampton as Nathaniel Chalobah looks set to make a £5 million move away from Chelsea this summer.

The 22-year-old only has a year left on his contract and hasn’t been convinced that he will get enough first-team football under Antonio Conte in the coming season.

Chalobah made his debut for his boyhood club last season but only made five starts, as well as 10 substitute appearances last season.

He hasn’t been convinced that he will play a bigger role at the club next season, as Chelsea remain confident that they will secure a £35m move for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko in the coming week, despite delays in conducting a medical.

Watford remain favourites but Southampton are seriously considering making an approach with several other Premier League clubs also interested in the talented midfielder.

Chelsea are facing losing several young players this summer with Nathan Ake and Bertrand Traore having already left for Bournemouth and Lyon.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to move to Crystal Palace on loan and Ola Aina has already left on loan for Hull City.
