In a recent press release, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize the task of rescuing Nigeria from its current economic challenges. Following his victory at the Supreme Court last Thursday, where his election as President was affirmed, Olawepo-Hashim emphasized the urgent need for Tinubu to address the country’s economic woes.

Nigeria is currently grappling with its worst inflation in over two decades, coupled with a rapid devaluation of its currency by 80% in just four months. Olawepo-Hashim highlighted these pressing issues, emphasizing that Tinubu, as the democratically elected leader, must take swift and decisive action to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the nation.

“It is not enough for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to hit the ground running; he must now soar to greater heights,” Olawepo-Hashim stated in the press release. Acknowledging the magnitude of the challenges ahead, he urged Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of citizens, unite the nation, and implement measures to revive the struggling economy.

The call for a government of national unity was also reiterated by Olawepo-Hashim, who drew parallels to the post-civil war cabinet of General Gowon. He emphasized that the deep divisions within the country and the dire state of the economy necessitate a collaborative approach to governance. Olawepo-Hashim’s advocacy for a government of national unity began even before the 2023 elections, as he recognized the urgent need to heal the fractures in the polity and rebuild the economy.

While some critics dismissed the idea, arguing for a government of “national competence,” Olawepo-Hashim highlighted the increasing impatience of the Nigerian people, who are eagerly awaiting tangible improvements in their welfare. He emphasized that the challenges facing the nation demand the involvement of the best minds and not just “yes men and women.” Nigeria’s future depends on the competent and dedicated individuals who will be entrusted with important responsibilities.

Olawepo-Hashim concluded his press release by extending his congratulations to President Tinubu for his victory at the Supreme Court. The affirmation of Tinubu’s election marks a significant milestone in his political career. However, Olawepo-Hashim’s message serves as a reminder that the real work lies ahead. The nation’s expectations are high, and the success of Tinubu’s administration will be measured by its ability to address the pressing economic challenges and improve the lives of Nigerian citizens.

President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to the welfare of the nation will undoubtedly be tested in the coming months. As Nigeria grapples with economic hardship, it is imperative that the government takes immediate and effective action to stabilize the economy, promote inclusive growth, and ensure the well-being of all citizens. The hopes of millions rest on the shoulders of President Tinubu, and the nation eagerly awaits the transformative changes that lie ahead.
