In a significant ruling, the National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has upheld the election of David Onarigu as the representative for the Udege/Loko Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. This decision marks a victory for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and affirms the legitimacy of Onarigu’s election.

The election saw Onarigu, emerge victorious over Ahmed Tanko, the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). However, Tanko and his party contested the outcome, raising concerns about the omission of the NNPP logo and alleged non-compliance with the electoral act by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the election.

A three-member panel led by Justice Francisca Nnang carefully reviewed the petition and ultimately dismissed it, citing a lack of merit in the claims presented by the NNPP candidate. Justice Nnang, while delivering the judgment, emphasized that Tanko had failed to substantiate his case and therefore dismissed it entirely.

“The court hereby dismisses the case in its entirety,” declared Justice Nnang, bringing an end to the legal battle.
