Former President Donald Trump has been in the headlines once again, this time for a court ruling in a sexual abuse case. The New York Daily News, a major newspaper in the city, boldly printed “SEX ABUSER” on its front page alongside a picture of Trump. The reason for this headline is a lawsuit brought against Trump by writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of raping her in a department store in the 1990s.

While the jury did not find Trump liable for rape, they did find him guilty of sexual abuse and defamation. As a result, Carroll was awarded $5 million in total damages. This ruling is a significant blow to the former president, who has faced numerous accusations of sexual misconduct over the years.

The New York Post, which is owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, took a different approach to the news. They printed a new spin on one of Trump’s most infamous quotes: “I moved on her like a bitch.” The newspaper added the words “from New York” to the end of the quote, highlighting the fact that Trump is no longer a resident of the city.

Indeed, Trump has left the Big Apple behind and now resides at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. This move has been seen by some as a way for him to distance himself from his legal troubles in New York. However, the sexual abuse case is just one of many legal battles Trump is currently facing.

As a 20-year-old female news writer, I cannot help but feel a sense of disappointment at the continued prevalence of sexual misconduct in our society. The fact that a former president can be found guilty of sexual abuse and defamation is a stark reminder that we still have a long way to go when it comes to addressing these issues.

It is important to remember that victims of sexual abuse and harassment often face significant challenges when coming forward with their stories. They may be disbelieved, blamed, or even threatened for speaking out. The fact that E. Jean Carroll was able to pursue her case and receive damages is a testament to her courage and perseverance.

While the legal system has its flaws, it is heartening to see that justice can sometimes be served. The fact that a major newspaper like the New York Daily News is willing to print a headline like “SEX ABUSER” shows that there is a growing awareness of the need to hold powerful people accountable for their actions.

As a young woman, I believe that we must continue to push for change and demand a world where sexual abuse and harassment are not tolerated. We must support survivors and work to create a culture where they feel safe and empowered to speak out. Only then can we hope to create a society that is truly just and equitable for all?
