Hey, rockers! We’ve got some sad news to share, unfortunately. Mick Slattery, the OG guitarist, and co-founder of Hawkwind passed away at the age of 77. The band confirmed the news and said Mick passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on March 17th, the luck of the Irish didn’t quite come through for him this year.

If you’re a true fan, you know that the iconic rock band recorded some of their best tracks at Abbey Road Studios, but they’re probably most well-known for their killer song “Silver Machine.” Mick and Dave, another founder, played together in a band called Famous Cure before they decided to team up and change the rock scene forever with Hawkwind in 1969.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, Dave shared some fond memories of their younger days, including chilling at the L’Auberge Cafe and Eel Pie Island in Richmond. Speaking of their younger days, they used to rehearse in Dave’s flat and Bob Kerr’s music shop, but their neighbors weren’t too keen on the loud music, can’t blame ’em!

Despite this sad news, we should still celebrate the legacy that Hawkwind has left and the impact they made on the world of rock. Did you know that they actually started performing gigs before they even had a name? They went by Group X until they finally decided on Hawkwind.

Fly free, Mick, and keep on rockin’!
