Two suspects have been arrested and another suspect is at large in relation to two shootings in North Preston and East Preston, N.S., Friday evening.

At 8:12 p.m. AT, Nova Scotia RCMP tweeted that they were on the scene of shots fired in East Preston. One suspect had been arrested and two had fled into the woods, the tweet said.

A little over an hour later, RCMP tweeted they were still looking for ‘at least one more’ male suspect and that shots were fired around Bell Street in East Preston.

At 11:25 p.m., police tweeted that a direction to shelter in place had been lifted and an emergency alert issued at around 8:10 p.m. was over.

“Police no longer believe there is immediate risk to safety of residents in the area,” the tweet said.

Earlier, Cpl. Chris Marshall had said police aren’t aware of any injuries from the shootings.

RCMP first received a call about the shootings at 6:55 p.m., Marshall told CBC News.

Marshall said police took one person into custody and two others were seen running into a wooded area behind Brian Street in East Preston. One of those two suspects remains at large.

“We have the area contained at this point,” he said.

Suspect believed to be armed

The suspect is believed to be armed.

Marshall said the force has many officers and resources on site.

Police are warning residents not to approach the suspect and to call 911 if spotted.

Police said there will continue to be a heavy police presence in the area, the investigation continues and more details will be issued Saturday. Anyone with information on the shootings should contact them directly, police said.
