“Our military mission in Afghanistan will conclude on August 31st. The drawdown is proceeding in a secure and orderly way, prioritizing the safety of our troops as they depart.

“Our military commanders advised me that once I decided to end the war, we needed to move swiftly to conduct the main elements of the drawdown. And in this context, speed is safety.

“And thanks to how we have managed our withdrawal, no one — no one U.S. forces or any forces have — have been lost. Conducting our drawdown differently would have certainly come with an increased risk of safety to our personnel.” President Biden said

Taliban fighters had since entered Kabul, and President Ashraf Ghani left Afghanistan saying he wanted to avoid bloodshed.

Reacting to the withdrawal, Senator Shehu Sani wrote on his verified Facebook wall to applaud him for making the decision.

He said, “President Joe Biden made the right decision to pull American troops out of Afghanistan.

“He met the plan on the table and implemented it. He has done what three former Presidents couldn’t do.

“The choice is either to remain there forever or to make a hard choice. Remaining in Afghanistan is maintaining a mistake. After over a trillion dollars wasted and the lives of Americans, Afghans, and other nationals perished, Biden is right to let go. The Afghans want Taliban, let them have it; the Afghans and the Taliban’s will definitely need the rest of the world,” he said.
