In a bid to promote road safety and prevent accidents, the Osun State Government has once again called on motorists and motorcyclists to obey traffic lights at various road intersections in Osogbo and other parts of the state.
The call came after a tragic accident on Thursday morning at the Olaiya junction in Osogbo. A Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) vehicle transporting inmates from the Ilesa Correctional Facility collided with a commercial minibus, leaving two passengers injured.

Security personnel was able to avert a crisis at the scene of the accident when colleagues of the injured driver and other commercial motorcyclists arrived, protesting the accident. In response, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Office of Transportation, Bilal Adiat, expressed his condolences and reiterated the need for road users to exercise patience and obey traffic lights.
“This is what the government has been hammering on, every now and then. For our good and the safety of other road users, please continue to obey the traffic lights at Olaiya junction in Osogbo and other places. A little patience is all that is needed, you will always get to your destination if you are patient,” Adiat explained.

He added that traffic laws are there for the good and safety of all road users and that the government is committed to enforcing such laws to maintain road safety across the state. The present administration of Senator Ademola Adeleke is taking all necessary steps through the Office of Transportation to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of traffic lights and other road safety measures.
The Executive Secretary also wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery and urged all road users to remain vigilant and obey traffic rules to prevent accidents like this from occurring in the future.
