Haye will be completely fit for rematch with Bellew – Hearn

David Haye will be “100 per cent'” fit for the Tony Bellew rematch after starting a training camp in Los Angeles, says promoter Eddie Hearn.

The former world champion has linked up with trainer Ismael Salas in America as he trains towards his second fight with Bellew at The O2 on May 5, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Haye pulled out of a scheduled bout with Bellew in December after injuring his bicep in a ‘freak accident’, while he has also been recovering from surgery on his Achilles following the March stoppage loss to Bellew.

But the Merseysider’s promoter Hearn believes the 37-year-old will be in the best condition possible as he still holds ambitions of challenging current world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

“I saw David Haye’s social media today. He is private jetting from Vegas to LA. Very different camps, but that’s David,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

“David Haye wants to come back. He wants to try and be in big fights, he wants to try and fight for the heavyweight championship of the world.

“It’s a big test for him. I’m expecting him to be 100 per cent. If he wasn’t, I think he knows that’s his career over. But for Tony Bellew, he believes he is going to end his career for him on May 5.”

Bellew has suggested he is also approaching his final few fights, but Hearn insists ‘Bomber’ can achieve much more after moving up to the top division following a WBC title triumph at cruiserweight.

“I think there is plenty of fight left in Tony Bellew,” said Hearn. “He’s talking about one or two more fights. I think you might see him around for a while.”
